John Glenn

Astronaut John Glenn (1921-2016), a decorated fighter pilot in World War II, and Mercury 7 pilot,  was the first American to orbit the earth. All three historic orbits in space in 1962 had the call sign Friendship 7. Peak acceleration was 7.7 g.  Glenn served as a US Senator from Ohio for 25 years. In 1998 he became the oldest man in space while serving on the Space Shuttle STS-95 mission at the age of 77.

Our 39th president married Eleanor Rosalynn Smith on 7 July (7th month) 1946. Jimmy Carter is a 7th-generation Georgian. Carter, a best-selling author of 21 books, took 7 years to write The Hornet’s Nest, which brings to life the Revolutionary War. It’s the first novel written by a U.S. president. In his best-selling book Sources of Strength, Carter wrote about how Elisha sent word that Naaman needed only to bathe in the little Jordan River 7 times to be cured.
